Cleaning Up the GB250 Clubman's Handlebar: Relocating the Choke Lever
On the GB250 Clubman, the choke lever is built into the switch box. Here's how to tidy up the handlebar using a ball-end choke lever and an AMAL cable.

Switching to an AMAL throttle housing, chrome levers and compact switches makes the handlebar look dramatically cleaner.
The GB250 Clubman, however, is a bit tricky. Its choke lever is built into the left switch box, so if you remove the switch box, you can no longer operate the choke. Here's how to solve that.
01 Make the choke independent with a ball-end choke lever
In place of the choke lever built into the switch box, we use the Ball End Choke Lever Left 7/8". It mounts on the handlebar by itself, so you can still operate the choke with the switch box removed.

02 Use an AMAL Universal Cable for the choke cable
The stock choke cable can't be used as is. Instead, use an AMAL Universal Cable, Type3 or Type5.

The other key point is modifying the cable end. The pocket for the cable end in the choke lever is narrow, so the cable end needs to be filed down a little.

It's only a light modification you can handle by filing a little at a time with a coarse file. Check the fit against the lever as you go so you don't take off too much.
03 Parts for a cleaner setup
Once the choke problem is solved, you can tidy up the Clubman's handlebar too. These are the main parts used for this build.
- Ball End Choke Lever Left 7/8"
- AMAL Universal Cable Type3 or Type5 (for choke)
- AMAL 364 Type Throttle Housing Chrome
- AMAL Universal Cable Type1-900mm (for throttle)
- Compact switches to replace the switch box (for horn/turn signals, starter and headlight)
04 The finished bike
Just getting rid of the switch box changes the look of the handlebar dramatically. The result brings out the Clubman's classic character even more.

What we used
- Ball End Choke Lever Left 7/8"
- AMAL Universal Cable Type3 or Type5
