- Securing the ground wire (yellow) together with the taillight when mounting it
- How to fill the gap between the fender and frame with washers of different thicknesses
- Connecting the taillight wiring (yellow is ground)
The Fenderless Kit is a fender kit that gives the rear end of the SR400/500 ('78-Final) a clean look. It comes in a black painted finish and is available without a taillight or with a Lucas L525-type or Miller 38ET-type taillight. You mount the taillight on the fender, then fix it to the frame with the supplied bolts and nuts.
This page walks through the process - from mounting the taillight to attaching it to the frame, adjusting the gaps and connecting the wiring - following the original instructions.
01 Installing the fender
-
Mount the taillight on the fender. Secure the yellow (ground) wire together with the taillight nut.

-
Attach the fender to the frame with the supplied bolts and nuts.

-
Washers of different thicknesses are included. Use these washers to fill the gap between the fender and the frame.

Because the left-to-right width of the rear frame varies slightly from bike to bike, adjust the gap with the washers.
02 Taillight wiring
-
Connect the taillight wiring and retighten everything to finish (see diagram below).

On the taillight wiring, yellow is the ground.
| Wire colors on the bike-side harness (order as shown in the diagram) | Taillight side |
|---|---|
| Yellow | Brake (red) |
| Black | Ground (yellow) |
| Blue | Constant power (black) |
After wiring, be sure to check that the brake light and taillight work and that everything is tight. If you are unsure about installing it yourself, please have the work done by someone with the proper knowledge or by a custom shop. If you have any questions, please contact us via our contact form.
