Replacing the G.W Comfort Bar (RH975/Nightster): From Removing the Switch Boxes to Banjo Orientation
A step-by-step guide to swapping in the G.W Comfort Bar handlebar for the RH975/Nightster. It covers removing the switch boxes and clutch bracket, securing the bar, aligning the locating knobs, and checking the brake hose angle.

- How to remove the clutch bracket and switch boxes, and what to watch for
- Snugging and final-tightening the bar, and positioning the switch boxes
- Checking the banjo angle, plus a post-install checklist
The G.W Comfort Bar is a replacement handlebar for the RH975/Nightster. Like the stock bar, it has locating slots on both sides for the switch boxes.
This page walks you through removing the switches from the stock bar, installing the Comfort Bar, and checking the brake hose routing.
01 Before you start
If the gauge is mounted on the riser, remove it and disconnect its wiring.

Cover the tank and other parts to protect them from scratches.

02 Removing the clutch side (left)
-
Remove the bar-end mirrors and adapters on both sides.

-
Disconnect the coupler attached to the clutch bracket. Press the lock tab and pull gently, and it will come out more easily.

-
Remove the two Torx screws and take off the clutch bracket.

-
Remove the left grip. Peel back the rubber on the inner side of the switch box a little to reveal a Torx screw.

-
Remove this Torx screw and the grip comes off. This screw strips easily, so loosen it carefully.

-
Remove the two Torx screws at the back of the switch box and take off the rear cover. There are small tabs on the inside, so be careful not to break them.

-
Disconnect the coupler. The clutch-side wiring is now free.

- Loosen the bolt holding the switch box and slide the switch box off the bar. That completes the clutch side.
03 Removing the other side and the handlebar
Remove the parts on the other side the same way.

Once all parts are off, remove the clamp bolts and take off the handlebar.
04 Installing the Comfort Bar
Install the handlebar by reversing the removal steps.
-
Check the angle and left-right centering, then snug the bar in place.

-
Once everything is set, tighten it down. Tighten the bolts in an alternating pattern so they are torqued as evenly as possible.

-
Each switch box has a locating knob inside.

-
The Comfort Bar has slots on both sides just like the stock bar, so position each switch box so its knob sits in the slot.

We recommend adjusting the bar angle while fitting the switch boxes. Setting the angle within the slots makes it easier to keep both sides even.
05 Check the banjo angle
After installing the brake master cylinder, check the angle of the banjo.

If it points too far outward, it may put tension on the brake hose. In that case, loosen the banjo bolt slightly and change its angle.
Loosening the banjo bolt too much can cause fluid leaks or let air into the system. Adjust the angle carefully and tighten it securely. Also note that if it points too far inward, the brake hose will hit the tank.
06 After installation
Once everything is installed, check the following.
- Before riding, make sure the cables and hoses are routed without strain
- Turn the bars and make sure nothing feels off
- Make sure all switches work properly
- After riding, check for anything that has loosened
