Assembling a 7 Inch Lucas-Type Headlight: Transplanting the SR's Stock Light Unit

How to transplant the SR's stock light unit into a 7 inch Lucas-type headlight case. If you're using a separately sold unit, the second half of the job is the same.

The 7 inch Lucas-type headlight gives a classic look. The product covered here is the case only, so you'll need a separately sold light unit for the lens.

On the SR, though, the nice thing is that you can transplant the stock headlight's light unit as is. It's an economical custom that makes use of parts you already have.

01 Removing the SR's stock light unit

First, take the light unit out of the SR's stock headlight.

Remove the two screws on the case and take out the light unit.
It won't fit the Lucas-type case yet. Remove each of the screws on the unit.
Separate the light unit from the rim.
Once you have just the light unit, you're ready.

02 Assembling it into the Lucas-type rim

From here, the work is the same whether you use the SR's stock light unit or a separately sold one. If you don't have an SR stock headlight, get a light unit along with the case.

Remove the rim from the case. Two tabs stick out on the back of the rim.
Bend these tabs toward you and fit the light unit in.
Bend the tabs back until the lens sits roughly in the center.
The lens is now lightly held in place in the rim.
Orient the included clips as shown in the photo and hook them onto the rim one side at a time.
With clips in four places, the light unit is held securely. Then just fit it into the light case.
