Installing the Hardtail Kit (SR400/500): Parts Diagram and Brake Rod Extension
Installation steps for the Hardtail Kit for the SR400/500. Photos and parts diagrams walk you through the parts for the lower (left and right) and upper mounts, extending the brake rod, and fitting the frame caps.

- Bolt and collar combinations for the lower and upper mounts
- How to connect the brake rod extension bracket
- Changes needed on the bike after installation, and precautions
The Hardtail Kit replaces the swingarm on the SR400/500 to make the rear rigid (no suspension). The parts used on the left and right differ in size and type, so pay close attention to which go where.
Based on the photos and parts diagrams in the original, this page covers securing the frame, extending the brake rod, and fitting the caps, along with important precautions.

06 Precautions
- The stock rear fender, taillight, turn signals, and similar parts can no longer be fitted, so modify and install universal parts or similar to suit your bike.
- The stock side stand will make the bike stand too upright, so modify or replace it to suit the bike.
- The footpegs lose their rubber mounts and become solid-mounted. The left footpeg is offset 9mm outward, so the stock rear-set footpeg can't be used as-is. Either modify it to fit or switch to forward-type footpegs.
- If the stock frame has weld spatter, scratches or excessively thick paint, the collars at the footpeg mounts may be difficult to insert. In that case, file them down, etc.
- If the engine has been bored out or tuned with a racing carburetor or similar, we recommend upgrading the chain size (520, 530) and adjusting the final drive ratio with sprockets.
Because this product removes the suspension, vibration increases. Inspect and retighten everything before every ride. If you are unsure about the installation, be sure to have it done by someone experienced or by a custom shop. For any questions, please reach us through our contact form.
