- How to assemble the LED unit and ring bracket
- Aligning the cowl, adjusting the headlight angle and final tightening
The XL-FT Headlight KIT changes the Sportster's front end to a flat-track-style cowled headlight. The bracket is secured using the riser bolts.
This page goes in order from removing the stock headlight to assembling the bracket and LED unit, fitting the cowl and final tightening.
01 Removing the stock headlight

-
Remove the stock headlight together with the visor. With a bottom-mount headlight, remove the bracket as well.

-
Remove the two bolts holding the risers.

Removing the bolts frees the handlebar and risers. Be careful not to scratch the tank or other parts.
02 Fitting the bracket and LED unit
-
Fit the included bracket, minding its orientation, by mounting it together with the riser bolts. Route the wiring and cables between the brackets. Use an appropriate amount of thread-locking compound on the riser bolts.

-
Sandwich the LED unit between the ring brackets, aligning the recess in the bracket with the LED's anti-rotation tab.

-
Secure the bracket to the LED unit with the bolts, collars and nuts. Make sure they're tightened evenly.

-
Attach the LED unit to the bracket with the bolt and spring washer, then modify and connect the wiring.

03 Fitting the cowl
-
Loosely attach the L-shaped bracket to the cowl with a flange bolt and nut.

-
Offer the cowl up to the bike. Loosely fit the left and right bolts to align it, and line up the bracket you just attached to the cowl with the spot where the visor bolt used to go. Adjust the headlight angle at this point too.

-
Once you've found the position where the bolts go in without resistance, fully tighten all the bolts. Use thread-locking compound here as well.

Use thread-locking compound as needed during installation. Explanations of the tools used and general wiring work are omitted. Due to variation between individual bikes, some minor adjustment or improvisation may be needed.
